Experience
I earned my associate degree at Austin Community College in Mass Communications, and went on to study at Texas State University, where I earned a BA in Spanish and English, with a particular focus on creative writing. Later, I earned my MSIS in the Graduate School of Applied Arts at Texas State. The emphasis of my graduate work was on social research involving communication and organization behavior. I have gone on to work for more than 10 years in health care, working on professional development and marketing. I have also taught adults in a variety of classes to help them build up their professional skills. Some of these classes include conflict resolution, professional writing, time management, and organization skills. I earned my certification in reading strategy, where I help students use visualization techniques to aid in their comprehension, as well as verbalization techniques to aid them in expressing themselves. I especially enjoy working with people to discover the techniques and skills that will be of value to them for their entire lives. I enjoy those times when, as a tutor, I can help a student overcome anxiety related to testing, so that they can feel enthusiastic about the content they are learning. A few things I like are biking, writing, and Zumba.
